Warrior Manifesto

Curriculum Manual

Winning means winning over the discord in yourself.  Those who have a warped mind, a mind of discord, have been defeated from the beginning..."

-Morihei Ueshiba

founder of Aikido

Northwest Budo College is committed to the training of individuals in a manner that will assist them in being well-skilled in the area of practical self-defense.  Further, the school atmosphere and expectations are meant to train students to be as effective of an individual as possible and to use their Hapkido training to grow both personally and professionally.  Students are encouraged to apply Hapkido principles to their lives in order to overcome personal obstacles and weaknesses of personality and character.

Students are expected to behave responsibly, be productive members of society and use their training to help those less fortunate than them.

The school highly respects and teaches the tenants of old warrior tradition ... those tenants are Respect, Discipline, and Honor.  Students are expected to exhibit these characteristics in their lives, toward their instructor and other students in the school.  Indeed one cannot practice successfully within the Dojang without these characteristics being part of each individuals character.

Northwest Budo College's second motto is "The School of War and Peace".  Encapsulating in this saying is our understanding of the dualities in the arts that we train in.  We must train and prepare for war and life, but peace is always our true calling.  It is hoped that by their training, a students own presence and confidence will allow conflict resolution without the use of force.  And if so, perhaps to that which is only necessary.  Nonetheless, a warrior must do what he must to survive and win should the situation arise.  We are always mindful of this.
